In 2017, doTERRA teamed with the Fredette Family Foundation to bring the Choose Kindness Initiative in Pleasant Grove. Each year, the Initiative will choose a project designed to bring our community together and to promote kindness among citizens of all ages. Because Discovery Park is in dire need of repair, the Choose Kindness Initiative has decided its project for this year will be to revitalize the park!
Leathers and Associates, a park design firm, visited with students from several schools on September 26th, 2017. Jim, the lead designer, asked the students what they find fun about park, and collected pictures they drew of their ideas. He used their input in his initial design, which was unveiled that evening.
The buildout is scheduled for Spring 2019. We still have a lot of fundraising, planning and design work to complete. And you, as community members, will have many opportunities to donate and volunteer, including various Service and Eagle Scout projects.

The Project Details
Community-built projects inspire everyone who participates with a sense of ownership, so much so that they become a focus of community life. People describe them as the experience of a lifetime. Families who helped build will return for picnics and bring out-of-town guests to show them what the community accomplished together.
Rediscover Discovery Park is a grassroots, citizen-driven group formed under the auspices of the Pleasant Grove City Council and sponsored by local businesses and the Fredette Family Foundation. We are committed to rebuilding an exciting new venue for childhood entertainment, exercise and education right here in Pleasant Grove. One hundred percent of all fundraising dollars go directly toward the playground project.
We have chosen to work with Leathers & Associates, a world renounced design firm, that specializes in custom-design community-built projects. Leathers has designed more than 2,000 projects throughout the US and seven foreign countries, including the Original Discovery Park playground.
Together, our goal is to rebuild Discovery Park. Plans call for a child-designed playground that will be constructed with green materials (95% post-consumer recycled plastic). The playground will be built by hundreds of volunteers from the community in the Spring 2019. Building the playground with free volunteer labor will save over 25% of the cost compared to a manufactured installed playground. This means every dollar will buy much more fun for the children of our community and all those who visit the park! The total budget for the playground is $600,000. We need the assistance of major corporate sponsors, residents and other partners to complete our funding needs and make this dream a reality.
